Pivot DPS to enable non-technical content creators in an enterprise environment
Adobe aimed to integrate Digital Publishing Solution (DPS) with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) to create a modern content publishing platform leveraging Adobe Sensei AI technology. My design team was tasked with validating the feasibility of this unification.
The merger of DPS and AEM raised several critical questions regarding workflow overlap, redundancy elimination, user navigation of technical landscapes, and overall complexity versus opportunity. To address these challenges, we cataloged each framework's capabilities, analyzed competitors, and developed personas and use cases for traditional marketers and producers. Our guiding principles focused on creating intuitive tools and elegant app experiences aligned with AEM priorities, ensuring a seamless publishing workflow.
We envisioned a templated mobile app viewer system, allowing non-technical content creators to quickly prototype marketing ideas and launch apps. Core screens included Sign In, Home, Level One, Level Two, and widgets for enhanced experiences. Five industry-specific starter kits supported responsive and adaptive experiences across platforms. We designed a user-centered tools experience with guided starter kits and a lightweight editing system. My role included leading designs for the web-based dashboard and first-run experiences, as well as focusing on the sales enablement experience, incorporating unique features like offline operations and localization.
Through collaborative efforts, we developed a user-centered approach for non-technical users to build and maintain content-driven apps, evolving Adobe's publishing ecosystem. We distilled technical platform capabilities, strategically merged functionalities, and aligned on a cohesive design direction. We created a new platform with extensible templates, guided experiences, and asset management systems, enabling non-technical users to prototype, launch, and analyze mobile apps across various industries.
Our work resulted in a robust mobile and tools system, setting the stage for the next generation of digital publishing at Adobe.
